Dermal Filler Before and After Care Instructions

BEFORE YOUR DERMAL FILLER APPOINTMENT

  • The following should not replace the advise of your primary care

  • If possible, schedule your apointment 3-4 weeks prior to a special event such as a wedding or vacation. This allows ample time if adjustments are needed.

  • Do not schedule your aesthetic treatment for a minimum of 2 weeks prior to or following a dental procedure, including cleanings. Avoid Alcohol for a minimum of 24 hours prior to injection.

  • Avoid the use of Ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil), Aspirin, Aleve, Vitamin E, Garlic, Ginseng, Ginko Biloba, Fish Oil, Vitamin A, St.John's wort and/or any other essential fatty acid supplements for a minimum of 7 days prior to treatment as these can increase risk for bruising or bleeding. Please consult your PCP prior to discontinuing any medications.

  • Also avoid high sodium foods, high sugar foods, refined carbohydrates, spicy foods, and cigarettes 24-48 hours pre and post procedure, as these can delay healing, and increase risk for bruising and swelling.

  • You must wait at least 10 days (or until all symptoms have subsided) from a previous cosmetic treatment, such as laser, ultrasound, facial peels, or microdermabrasion to have Botox administered.

  • Unfortunately, you are not a candidate if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

  • If possible, please arrive to your scheduled appointment with a clean face, free of lotions, creams, or make-up.

  • Arnica tablets can be taken as directed starting 5 days prior to your appointment to minimize bruising, if cleared by your PCP to do so.

  • Pineapple can be eaten in the days leading up to your appointment as well if you are prone to bruising. It contains an exzyme called bromelain that helps your body reduce pain bruising and swelling.

  • It is Ok to premedicate with Tylenol 1 hour prior to your appointment, as long as there are no contraindications.

  • Please arrive 10 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment time to complete any necessary paperwork and provide time to utilize numbing creams if necessary/desired.

AFTER CARE DERMAL FILLER INSTRUCTIONS

To minimize bruising and swelling:

  • Avoid alcohol for at least 48 hours.

  • Avoid manipulation of the injection sites. Do not massage or apply pressure, this could cause migration of the filler as well as increase the risk of infection.

  • Avoid Exercise for 48-72 hours or until swelling has subsided.

  • No dental work for 2 weeks post injection.

  • Avoid excessive heat such as tanning beds, saunas, hot tubs, or hot showers for a minimum of 48 hours.

  • Avoid sleeping face down, on your stomach for 24 hours, keep your head elevated if possible.

  • Avoid the use of supplements or non-steroidal anti-infmammatory medications for at least 24 hours to reduce the risk of increased bruising. Tylenol is ok.

  • It is encouraged to take arnica (oral and/or topical) as instructed to help with bruising and swelling.

  • It is ok to use a cold compress (cold cloth or ice) to the treated areas for 5-10 minutes every hour for bruising and swelling. Do not use for more than 10 minutes at a time. Make sure to use very light pressure, do not push hard as product migration could occur.
